SHOCK ABSORBERS & STRUTS

Shock absorbers (or shocks) do not actually absorb shocks or jolts caused by rough roads; this is a misnomer. They control the rate at which the suspension springs bounce. Without shock absorbers, the car would bounce for a long time after hitting a bump or dip.
